Middle names
Middle Names
Most people have a middle name. Some use it in their signature, some
hide it away, others use just the initial, while still others abandon
their first name and use the middle instead. Some people are recognized
much more with their first and middle name than with just the first
name, such as criminals--e.g., Lee Oswald ("Who? oh, you mean Lee
Harvey Oswald!")--and celebs, Sarah Parker ("Who? oh you meanh
Sarah Jessica Parker.")
Some middle names are used to honor a relative. Some middle names are
an exotic counterpoint to bland first and surnames, such as Mary Cynnamyn
Smith or Paul Dorchester Jones. Many parents stick with the popular
stand bys such as Marie, Ann, Lynn, Rose for girls and James, John,
Joseph, Rober, Thomas and David for boys.
Some parents like to pick a middle name for their baby that rhymes
with the first name, such as Harvey Lee; others like an alliterative
sound like Billy Bob. Still another option is to have the syllable count
in the first name be different than the last name, such as Kyle Mackensy.
In any event, it's a good idea to sound it out and check that the initials
don't mean something you'd rather not use, like D. O. A. or N. U. T.
Here are some of our favorite middle names.
