American baby names (unique baby names)
Unique American baby names for boys and girls
Many of the baby names used in America are the same as those in the
country of origin of the parents. Particularly in the Colonial years
the names were mostly the same as those used in England. Later with
waves of different immigrant groups came many different names entered
the pool of American names. Those from countries that did not use
the Roman alphabet, such as Russian, China and Japan, had to change
the spelling to conform with the alphabet.
Some uniquely American name come from state and city names such as
Virginian, Carolina, Indiana, Louisiana, Philadelphia and Tennessee.
Others come from Native American names, such as Winona (from the Sioux
for "first daughter), Nizhoni (from the Navajo for "beautiful"),
Tatanka (a Dakota name for Buffalo), Magi (a Cherokee variant of Michael)
and Kateri (a Mohawk variant of Catherine).
There are some names that sound particularly American due to their
association with famous works of literature from the USA. Examples
here would be Scout (from To Kill a Mockingbird), Holden (from Holden

as Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Jackson, Grant, Wesley, Luther,
